Actor Nadège Adlam speaks of the experience of the project as a highly conceptual, theoretical process which posed a number of challenging questions to her as an actor. A bilingual French and English speaker herself, Adlam expresses the difficulties in keeping the French cultural dimension of NDiaye’s language in mind while also having to ask herself how to transpose the character into English: ‘the translation feels like it’s honouring a lot of the ideas in the original text it works on a lot of separate tracks and has different points of reference’.
