Actress Caroline Wildi discusses her difficulties in performing Simon Breden’s translation of Black Tenderness: the sentence structures are different, the verbs tend to come too late, the full stops are in unnatural places. Wildi’s strategy is to take the language as the language of the character: this is the way this character speaks.
